Along with the drainage area, which could be a drainage field or another cesspool. Houses built before 1972 will have block cesspools. Cesspool Maintenance & Problems While urban homes tend to connect to a municipal sewer system , many country and older rural homes make use of a self-contained septic system for waste management. Unlike sewer systems , a septic system requires regular maintenance due to the way it handles your waste . This is costly when working through a waste management company, but you may potentially save money by maintaining the septic system yourself. Septic System Components Septic systems consist of two major components: a well or septic tank and a drain field. Updated systems use a septic tank instead of a well for improved efficiency, although some older homes still use wells. While essentially the same concept, there are some minor design differences which may lead to different issues. The Modern Septic Tank This large underground tank is directly connected to your home’s main sewage line. When you flush your toilet or run your sink, the waste water flows into the tank

Maintaining A Cesspool System Below are a few ways to  maintain a cesspool . Each method listed has its pros and cons. Suffolk County has specific laws that must be followed, and  Murphy’s Cesspool & Septic Service  follows all protocols for not only Suffolk County, but all of Long Island Commercial and Residential locations.  Aeration Aeration is the chemical approach to  cleaning a cesspool . It is completed by pouring sulfuric acid into the well or tank. The sulfuric acid breaks down both solid waste and sludge creating an air passage. Waste is then dissolved the same way you would clean the pipes of your home with a chemical agent. The negative effects of this method of maintenance is that it can harm your cesspool or septic system in the long run.  Hydro-Jetting Hydro-Jetting is illegal in Suffolk County without using the proper regulation precautions in each incorporated village. This should be the first thing to note when considering this approach. Now, the proces

A cesspool is basically just an upside down bucket with a bunch of holes drilled around the sides. Except in  cesspool  construction the sides of the bucket is made from  steel reinforced precast concrete rings. These precast rings are engineered with specific design features and are made in a few diameters.  The “rings” as we call them in our industry, are constructed from concrete and rebar. A round steel frame made from rebar is put into a mold. Then the concrete is poured in from the top until the mold is filled. Air is then vibrated out. After that the ring is left to cure. Curing times vary depending on variables like weather and temperature.  The rings usually have holes all the way around them that serve a dual purpose. The holes around the precast ring are a wedge shape . These wedge shaped holes are bigger around the outside wall of the ring. The holes taper inward and get smaller as they get closer to the inner wall of the precast ring. These holes actua
